Adulting Academy is an Australian online learning platform that helps people build practical life skills. When we say "we", "us" or "our" in this policy, we mean the operator of Adulting Academy.

We only collect information that is reasonably necessary to provide you with our service. This includes:

• Account information — your first name, email address, and password (stored securely and never readable by us) when you create an account.
• Payment information — your billing details are collected and stored by Stripe, our payment provider. We never see or store your full card details on our servers.
• Subscription information — your plan type, subscription status, and renewal dates so we can manage your access.
• Learning progress — which lessons you have completed or started, so we can remember your progress across sessions.
• Usage data — basic analytics about how you use the site (pages visited, time spent) to help us improve the platform. This data is aggregated and not used to identify you individually.

We do not collect sensitive information such as your health data, financial details beyond what Stripe needs, or government identifiers like Tax File Numbers.

How we collect your information

We collect your personal information directly from you when you:

• Create an account on Adulting Academy
• Subscribe to an Academy Pass
• Contact us with a question or request
• Use the platform and complete lessons

We may also collect limited technical data automatically through your browser, such as your IP address and device type, for security and analytics purposes.

How we use your information

We use your personal information only for the following purposes:

• To create and manage your account
• To process your subscription payment via Stripe
• To provide you with access to lessons and content based on your subscription
• To remember your learning progress
• To send you important account or service updates (not marketing without your consent)
• To improve our platform based on how it is used
• To comply with legal obligations

We will never use your information for purposes unrelated to what is described above without first obtaining your consent.

Marketing emails and your opt-in choice

During sign-up, you will be given the option to opt in to receiving occasional marketing emails from us — including updates about new lessons, feature announcements, and tips relevant to your learning.

This is entirely optional. Ticking the checkbox during sign-up means you consent to us contacting you for marketing purposes. If you do not tick the checkbox, we will only contact you with essential account and service-related communications (such as payment receipts).

You can withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email we send, or by updating your preferences in My Account.

We will never share your email address with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share your data only with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the platform:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider, who securely stores your account and subscription data. Supabase stores data in data centres that comply with industry security standards.
• Stripe — our payment processor, who handles all billing. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant. Their privacy policy applies to payment data they collect.

These providers are not permitted to use your data for any purpose other than providing services to us. We may also disclose your information if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

Storing and protecting your information

Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase. We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.

Passwords are hashed using industry-standard encryption and are never stored in a readable form. All data is transmitted using HTTPS (TLS) encryption.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide our services. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request that we correct any inaccurate or out-of-date information
• Request that we delete your personal information (subject to legal obligations)
• Withdraw consent for marketing at any time
• Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have breached your privacy

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and maintain your session. We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers.
